Summary: "Really nice headphones!"

I'm not an audiophile by any means but I do enjoy music that's reproduced well. These headphones (I'm not cool enough yet to refer to them as 'cans' or spend money on amps or signal processors) sound as good as anything I can imagine. The music is clear and full. I've even listened to music I've been listening to for years and these headphones have introduced elements that I never noticed before.

The sound does leak out, they're not for personal listening in an environment where it's not desirable for others to hear what you're listening too. They also don't block outside noises, listening experience will be diminished if you're wearing them in noisy areas.

I was really in to huge bass from car stereos when I was a kid. I've had to learn that the absence of booming base does not mean poor sound. I'd recommend not messing with an EQ (leave it flat) when listing to these as that would change the way you were intended to hear it. EQs, to me, are more for fixing faults in reproduction and these headphones really don't have any (unless you're a crazy audiophile with extra cash and a well trained ear).

Summary: "Can cans..."

The Good...Grado headphones could be the finest enclosed listening devices in the world. The question now becomes, which model do I buy? Depends on the amount of money you have to spend, and your needs. The SR-60i model are the entry level in Grado headphones. I picked them up for $79 on the rebound from my Grado SR125 cans that broke. I use them for computer gaming and late night TV chores (blu-ray sounds great with these too). These are truly amazing sounding cans with rich full bass and wonderful reproduction of mid and high ranges. That's as far as I go in the technical review since there are so many more detailed and better writers than I on here. So it sounds like a slam dunk on these and your ready to pop on a pair...but what was that about 'they COULD be the finest'?.

The Bad...Well, as much as I love these, they do have flaws. And I have to say they are in the construction. 1. The wiring, which help make these what they are, is encased in covering that gets twisted very quickly. This wiring falls from the cans to each side of your neck while wearing them. From there, they unite in the middle of your chest and run off to the connection on your device. When sufficiently twisted, they can get to a point where they cling to your neck. Much like the old phone cords get twisted and you had to straighten the cord. I've also had to splice (reconnect the wiring) on several occasions. This occurred when the wires separated due to snagging the wire (my fault here). It finally got so bad that I had to get a new pair. Another construction flaw is the plastic that encircles and supports the speakers. I had one of those crack and the adjustment pole fell off! Luckily, I was able to reattach the adjustment pole to another unaffected area. That was on a pair of SR80's that I had. Perhaps, you won't use your pair a lot and I'd say they wouldn't exhibit the behaviors that mine have. As for me, like I said, I game in them on a daily basis, use 'em for digital music, HDTV, concert blu-rays, et al.

The Conclusion...My LOVE always seems to best the hate part of this relationship. You've gotta take the whole package, and Grado Labs does try to make improvements on the construction supports for their undeniably superior sounding headphones. So, buy 'em by all means, but handle with extreme care!

Summary: "Good sound for the price."

I don't do a lot of "serious" listening with headphones as I prefer loudspeakers in a larger room. I bought these for listening to ipod, itunes and audio/video tracks on my computer (without disturbing others.) I'm very happy with the sound quality. I don't find this design as comfortable for hour upon hour of listening as my closed cup Boise phones, but it's quite alright in the shorter run and the sound is cleaner. Grado builds these to meet a price point, and the value is in the drivers. Of course the rest of the design is plastic, and doesn't look like it would hold up for a road warrior. Mine will just stay at home, and probably last a long time.

Summary: "stopped working after a month."

These headphones are terrible. First off, the sound on the right side always came out noticeably louder than on the left, which is unbearable. They are very uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time, and like many other reviewers said, everybody near you will hear what you're listening to. Also, just one day after the return window ended these started falling apart. They're starting to noticeably get blown out on one side, and the sound will frequently only come out on one side unless I twist the cord around in a certain spot. That ends up happening to a lot of headphones I buy, but even the cheapest pairs have lasted longer than a month. The sound itself is alright but nothing to get excited about; nothing really sets these apart from any others I've used. This was an appalling waste of money and I can't recommend avoiding them enough.

Summary: "They're good but..."

The sound quality is phenomenal at somewhat loud volume, highs and cymbals are crisp, bass is tight, however listening to headphone at high volumes for a long period of time causes problems, but scientifically I don't know how loud is too loud. At lower volume, they sound like my Sony MDR-Q22LP w.Ear Headphones with Interchangeable Headphone Caps, very bland and not much detail, but I don't what is possible at low volume given the lack of good tone controls on portable devices - the 'equalizer' on my iP0D leaves a lot to be desired. After a period of time they become somewhat uncomfortable, but that is subjective. Many reviews complained that they are not durable and I have had them for a month with no problem and don't expect problems with gentle handling (except for the foam collapsing with age.) They look cheap, especially the plastic headband which will eventually have a piece of foam cut to size attached to it for comfort. The cord splits and goes to each ear cup which spins continuously on its hinges and this causes each 'side' of the cord to twist independently.
